Jonas Šileika, born in Jadagoniai, Lithuania, went to the USA in 1900. There he studied at the art faculty and graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1910. He continued to improve in Paris, Vienna, Krakow and Munich. He lived in Lithuania and Moscow in 1913-1915, and then returned to the United States. He was a teacher and professor at Kaunas School of Art, Vilnius Academy of Arts and Kaunas Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. Participated in exhibitions in the USA and Lithuania. He painted portraits, landscapes, figurative compositions. His works are characterized by bright lighting, constructive drawing and compositional balance. Died in Kaunas.
