The craftsmen started settling in the big cities such as Vilnius, Kernave, Trakai and other places where the craftsmen guilds began to be established. This organization ensured the freedom of craftsmen and gave them the right to participate in the city governance. With the threat of war, the artisans took muskets and cold weapons and stood guard at the magistrate and city gates. Special war exercises for the guilds were organized in Vilnius.

At least 25 types of crafts are recorded in the Statutes of Lithuania. Blacksmiths, masons, tailors, masons, furriers, wheelwrights, coopers, potters, tar workers, carpenters, gunsmiths are mentioned. Sheepskin tailors sewed unlined fur coats from sheepskins, knitters knitted gloves and socks, tanners worked with skins, goldsmiths made jewellery.
