True Italian spirit embraces you in one of the most beautiful courtyards in the Old Town of Vilnius. The building of Italian Renaissance architecture is a former Alumnat - a dormitory for priests was built in 1622 The seminary for priests was established here even before the construction of the nowadays popular building, which attracts attention with its arches.

Vilnius Alumnat was a religious and political institution of the Popes, where the students of the seminary of Unitarian priests were provided with free support. The Renaissance complex arose on the slope, next to the built-up possessions. The Alumnat buildings surrounded the eastern representational patio and western semi-enclosed patio.

The building ensemble of Vilnius University is unique not only in Lithuania but also one of the grandest in Northern and Eastern Europe. It has quite exclusive features of Italian Renaissance architecture, which are intertwined with local traditions and distinctiveness.
