Address:

W. A. Mozart composed Don Juan in Prague. The premiere of Mozart's unfinished "Requiem" also took place here in December 1786. The opera "The Marriage of Figaro" was premiered in Prague in 1787 by Pasquale Bondini and was an overwhelming success: the whole city was obsessed with the opera, its melodies were sung in the streets and even played in the taverns. Due to this success, Mozart received an invitation to come to Prague for Christmas in 1786. Together with his wife, he performed in Prague in 1787. He arrived on January 11 and stayed until February 8. The famous composer was warmly welcomed. The Mozarts were regularly invited to dinners, receptions, and performances. W.A. Mozart attended several performances of the opera "The Marriage of Figaro," and on January 20, he conducted the opera himself on the harpsichord. On the previous day, January 19, Mozart gave a concert, which was greeted by the audience with thunderous applause. Finally, he signed a contract with Mr. Bondini for the composition of a new opera. After his return to Vienna in February 1787, Mozart began work on the opera. The success of "The Marriage of Figaro" prompted him to consider Lorenzo Da Ponte as the ideal librettist. Da Ponte suggested the play "Don Juan" as the plot for the libretto. Mozart liked the idea. At the beginning of October, Mozart came to Prague for the second time to supervise the rehearsals for the opera. The opera Don Juan was premiered on October 29, 1787. The opera “Don Juan” was performed in the Estates Theatre in Prague on October 29, 2007. In Mozart's own words, the opera was his greatest success.
